Job Description Summary:

As an Anti-Phishing Intern at PayPal's Cybersecurity Defense Center, you will play an important role in supporting our anti-phishing operations. You will assist in monitoring and analyzing phishing threats, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather valuable insights. Your responsibilities will include helping to identify and mitigate phishing attempts, enhancing our incident response processes, and contributing to the development of anti-phishing strategies. Staying updated on emerging phishing tactics, you will support the refinement of our detection and defense techniques. Your efforts will help protect our digital assets and ensure secure interactions for our users.

• Assist in identifying and analyzing phishing threats, contributing to the protection of our infrastructure, systems, and data.
• Support cross-functional teams by providing insights and recommendations under the guidance of experienced professionals.
• Collaborate with teams across PayPal to learn and apply effective security practices, enhancing your understanding of operational security.
• Help improve anti-phishing operations by identifying opportunities for process improvement and gaining hands-on experience in automation.
• Gain exposure to key cybersecurity tools and applications, supporting their effective use and management.
• Participate in incident response activities, including simulations and tabletop exercises, to build your knowledge of handling security incidents.

Your day-to-day

• Assist in monitoring and analyzing phishing alerts and activities under the guidance of senior team members.
• Collaborate with the security team to help investigate phishing incidents, leveraging available tools and threat intelligence to gain insights.
• Document and maintain records of phishing incidents, providing updates to the team and contributing to ongoing efforts.
• Participate in training exercises and simulations to enhance your understanding of incident response and improve your skills.
• Support the team in reviewing and updating anti-phishing strategies and procedures to stay ahead of emerging threats.
• Stay informed about the latest phishing tactics and cybersecurity trends, contributing ideas to strengthen our defenses.

What do you need to bring

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and a keen interest in learning about phishing threats.
• Familiarity with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell) and a willingness to develop these skills further.
• Willingness to learn about network protocols and security principles.
• An analytical mindset, with the ability to follow guidance in identifying and responding to security incidents.
• Eagerness to participate in a collaborative environment and contribute to team efforts.
• Curiosity about emerging cybersecurity trends and phishing tactics.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work with others and share findings clearly.
• A proactive attitude, ready to take on new challenges and grow in the field of cybersecurity.

• This is a Summer 2025 Internship program. Spring and Fall 2025 internships are not available.
• Must currently be pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Must be returning to school in the Fall of 2025.
• Must reside in the U.S. during the Summer internship program.
• Must be able to obtain authorization to work in the U.S. for the summer.
