Private Wealth Management (PWM)  secures, develops and manages relationships with high net worth individuals, their families, family offices and foundations. PWM assists clients with building and preserving their financial wealth by creating and implementing long-term asset allocation within the context of each client’s particular risk tolerance, and by providing access to innovative investment ideas and opportunities. PWM professionals develop customized investment strategies and offer a full array of wealth management products and services, including private banking and trust company services. 

Portfolio Management Group (PMG)

The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is a multi-asset class investing group that sits within the Asset & Wealth Management Division at Goldman Sachs. PMG specializes in the discretionary management of portfolios across traditional and alternative asset classes and provides outsourced CIO (OCIO) services to private clients as well as select institutions. 

The team leverages and combines the independent strategic and tactical asset allocation framework of the Investment Strategy Group (ISG) of Private Wealth Management, a rigorous investment process and an open-architecture investment platform, to construct customized risk-focused portfolios.

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will be a member of the investment team of PMG, responsible for management and construction of multi-asset class portfolios in line with PMG investment philosophy, client guidelines and regulatory constraints.  The individual will work with the team to clearly communicate the investment process to clients and internal stakeholders alike, with a focus on the portfolio construction framework. 

The individual will work closely with Private Wealth Advisors (PWAs) and their clients/prospects, focusing on developing and communicating customized asset allocation and portfolio solutions, inclusive of portfolio implementation.

How you will fulfil your potential 

• As a member of the firm’s Discretionary Portfolio Management (DPM) team, assist PWAs in pitching for new business 
• Work closely with our Investment Strategy Group and the Asset Management Division to leverage existing expertise within our organization
• Have a strong ability to discuss financial markets and implications on investment portfolios with clients 
• Manage all operational aspects of client accounts, including account setup, trading, position reconciliation and capital calls
• Supervise trade execution in equities, bonds, mutual funds, FX & alternative investments, including hedge funds and private equity
• Develop and communicate materials for clients and prospects such as presentation books, requests for proposals and additional analyses
• Contribute to client review activity and new business development across Asia
• Thoroughly understand the main drivers of portfolio performance and clearly articulate them to clients and PWAs alike
• Have a strong understanding and appreciation for the multi-asset class portfolio construction process and ongoing portfolio maintenance
• Assist in the portfolio management of existing client portfolios involving areas such as portfolio construction, investment manager/vehicle selection, monitoring and rebalancing 
• Have strong experience working with a team with respect to the creation/maintenance of marketing materials, quarterly reviews, portfolio analytics and performance attribution.
• Work in conjunction with other areas of ISG and the broader firm, including GSAM, Legal, Compliance and Technology teams

Skills and Experience we’re looking for

• An experienced professional with 5-7 years in asset management preferred, with a specific emphasis on portfolio construction and DPM-related experience
• Proficiency with Bloomberg, Refinitiv/Datastream, Morningstar Direct, or similar systems
• Advanced grounding in fundamental investment concepts, with the analytical flexibility to evaluate strategies within a broad range of asset/sub-asset classes
• Ability to communicate and market complex ideas and strategies to clients of varying levels of sophistication. The successful candidate must have the confidence and credibility to persuasively interact with colleagues, management, and clients.
• A strong understanding of portfolio theory, asset allocation, risk analytics, and portfolio construction
• A self-starter with the ability to work efficiently and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment 
• Attention to details, patience, and ability to multi-task under pressure
• Strong written and verbal presentation skills, in both English and Chinese 
• Exercise good judgment and risk management 
• Must be fluent in Mandarin
• Undergraduate degree required
