Goldman Sachs is seeking to hire a Vice President for the Life Sciences Investing business within Asset Management. This position will have significant responsibility in identifying new investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, leading deal evaluation and execution, and advising portfolio companies on business, strategic and operational matters
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Source potential investment opportunities for life sciences investment business.
- Maintain and expand network with investors, founders, industry executives and and other relevant stakeholders.
- Lead core investment processes including due diligence, investment thesis formation, internal reviews, Investment Committee memo preparation and ongoing portfolio company monitoring.
- Play a central role leading all areas of due diligence including scientific, clinical, regulatory, business, financial, operational, legal and IP matters.
- Manage key aspects of the investment process, including discussions with third-party experts and advisors and preparation of financial analyses.
- Present investment theses to key stakeholders, including our advisory board and Investment Committee.
- Monitor and guide portfolio companies on value creation, growth and exit opportunities.
- Provide oversight and guidance to junior investing professionals.
- Collaborate with professionals across the team and firm and positively contribute to the overall culture.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree in life sciences and / or MD or PhD in life sciences or related field.
- 5+ years of investing experience in life sciences. Private investing experience preferred but public investing experience in early-clinical stage companies will also be considered.
- Ability to synthesize complex scientific, clinical and business information to rapidly identify key investment considerations and develop diligence plan for evaluation.
- High degree of fluency in scientific topics with rapid ability to come up to speed. Strong familiarity evaluating preclinical and clinical data sets.
- High degree of familiarity with drug development and regulatory processes including associated risks.
- Ability to independently source opportunities from academic, founder / entrepreneur, and investor networks.
- Familiarity and experience with financial modeling including discounted cash flow and three-statement modeling.
- Strong analytical abilities, creativity, thoughtful business judgment and professional maturity.
- Record of outstanding professional and academic achievement.
- High energy level, strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for investing.
- Desire to collaborate with colleagues throughout the firm globally.
- Ability to work seamless with senior and junior investment team to drive investments forward.
- Ability to partner with management teams solve business problems.
Salary Range
The expected base salary for this San Francisco, California, United States-based position is $150000-$300000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
