The Opportunity:

The Benefits Financial Analyst is responsible for analyzing and supporting the financial aspects of employee benefits programs. This role involves evaluating program costs, forecasting expenses, ensuring compliance, and providing data-driven recommendations to optimize benefits offerings and control costs. The analyst collaborates with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure efficient and effective benefits administration.

This position is remote for a local candidate in the DC Metro Area.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and report on the financial performance of benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, etc.
  • Review and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on benefit expenses and utilization.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify cost drivers and recommend cost-saving measures.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of proposed benefits changes and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of the annual benefits budget.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to management.
  • Forecast future benefits costs based on historical data, market trends, and demographic factors.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of benefits vendors.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Analyze vendor invoices and resolve discrepancies.
  • Work with actuarial firms as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and COBRA.
  • Stay informed of changes in benefits regulations and update internal policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Assist with audits and compliance reporting.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret benefits data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date benefits records.
  • Utilize HRIS and other data systems to generate reports and analyze data.
  • Work with large data sets, and be able to create meaningful reports.
  • Provide support to employees regarding benefit inquiries and issues.
  • Assist with the development of employee communication materials.
  • Participate in employee benefit enrollment and education activities.
  • Participate in and lead benefit-related projects as assigned.
  • Document processes, and create procedural manuals.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in benefits administration or financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of employee benefit programs and regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with HRIS and benefit administration systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of actuarial concepts is a plus.

Desired:

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or other relevant certifications.
  • Experience with self funded medical plans.
  • Experience with retirement plans.

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$71,500 - $150,200
