What you need to know about the role

Braintree, PayPal’s enterprise merchant platform, allows companies to move money from one place to another safely and securely. Every time you pay for an Uber ride, book a stay through Airbnb, or pay with PayPal when you check out online, you’re probably using our product. It sounds complex (and it is), but we make it so simple you can’t tell we’re there.  

Meet our team

The Enterprise product risk and operations team acts as a central leadership team within the Braintree organization at PayPal, supporting numerous critical workstreams. The team is relied upon to manage the overall risk environment of the products, own operational processes specific to our products and spearhead critical operational processes and risk remediation projects.

We are looking for a Product Risk & Controls Operations Manager to join our Braintree product team who is a highly organized go-getter, who is detail-oriented, able to lead cross-functional projects and manage and prioritize against many timelines. The ideal candidate must be able to understand a problem and quickly assess the criticality and potential exposure. The candidate must also have a critical mindset who understands the product and operations to ensure issues address the true root cause and not a symptom. The candidate must be enthusiastic about payments and motivated to make a positive impact on our business and for our merchants in our ever-changing environment. 

 

Your day to day  

  • Lead for issues management process including identification of potential issues, determination if an item meets the definition of an issue, completing root cause analysis, proactive solution discovery for remediation and ensure timely closures/extensions/acceptances 

  • Project manage and lead issues that are cross-functional in nature 

  • Create and maintain risk heat maps 

  • Create and maintain metrics associated with risk accepted issues  

  • Lead ops readiness projects for regulatory changes or any net new risks and/or mitigating controls that need to be put into place for product launches 

  • Lead and/or support operational processes specific to our Braintree and Payouts products (as needed) 
     

What you need to bring 

  • Expertise and experience in inherent risk, control design and root cause analysis 

  • Be someone who enjoys identifying, explaining and solving problems cross-functionally 

  • Detail oriented, with attention to clear and concise documentation and meeting both internal and external timelines 

  • Strategic thinker who understands what they are doing and why they are doing it and has the ability to envision how it can be modified to increase efficiency 

  • Critical thinker who does not only trust but verifies and uses data to justify cost / benefit of risk exposure 

  • Analytical thinker who can work comfortably on data analysis in Excel and other internal tooling to determine quantitative impact of potential issues or operational improvements 

  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn the payments ecosystem and the facets of our products and operational processes

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is

$82500 to $187990
