Job Description

CONFLICTS RESOLUTION GROUP

The Conflicts Resolution Group (CRG) evaluates a wide range of the firm’s business activities, including advisory, financing, principal investing, lending and certain other activities, in order to identify, assess, and manage actual or perceived conflicts of interest resulting from the firm’s new and existing roles, positions, and responsibilities, as well as reputational risks.  CRG determines from a conflicts of interest perspective whether the revenue businesses may continue to pursue a transaction (subject to further review by CRG and other control functions and committees) and may impose limitations or conditions which are monitored by CRG.  In doing so, the CRG helps to protect the firm’s client relationships, safeguard confidential information, mitigate reputational risk, and ensure that we are able to fulfill our responsibilities to clients prior to accepting a role and over the course of our engagement.

A role in CRG offers an exceptional opportunity for professional development for a person interested in financial markets and firmwide business activities who has the capacity to appreciate the complexities of risk management in the space.

This position will work as part of the CRG team across Asia Pacific with responsibility for coordinating conflict clearance. Upon joining the team, candidates can expect a challenging and rewarding role with a steep-learning curve that requires consistent focus and follow-through, a vigilant attention to detail and provides exposure to regional and divisional leadership. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Liaising with business units (including Global Banking & Markets, Asset & Wealth Management) to gather relevant details and initiate conflict checks for situations requiring clearance
  • Analyzing transactions, researching companies and identifying potential issues during due diligence of conflict checks
  • Reviewing GS investments, trading positions and exposures as part of the conflict checking process
  • Working closely with global members of the CRG, as well as other control groups such as Legal, Compliance, Business Intelligence Group, to collect relevant feedback and identify and resolve issues arising during the conflict check process while managing deal teams’ expectations around outcome and turnaround time
  • Helping to create solutions to appropriately navigate potential conflict issues
  • Carefully monitoring the status of opportunities and proactively flag any issues that may arise post completion of the conflict check process
  • Maintaining the CRG’s proprietary database which documents and tracks situations cleared or pending clearance

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail, with the ability to process and analyze high volumes of information
  • Demonstrable ability to manage multiple projects in an efficient manner and bring them to a timely completion
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced environment with high sense of urgency / multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work in close consultation with others as part of a small team that is spread across 4 countries in the Asia Pacific region, and interact directly with a global group of professionals throughout the firm including senior leadership and across time zones
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to document information in a clear, precise and efficient manner
  • Strong sense of discretion with respect to highly confidential information
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
