Verizon is seeking an experienced, energetic, talented attorney to join its Emerging Technology and Partnerships Legal Team supporting Verizon’s Technology and Product Development organization, including Innovation Labs, pre-commercial technology deployments, and emerging technology development teams (e.g., robotics, computer vision, edge computing, AI), as well as Verizon’s strategic innovation partnerships across industries.
The ideal candidate is a technology and business-minded attorney with early product development and tech transactions experience who can manage day-to-day legal support for dynamic technologists and business development teams, and demonstrates a capacity and curiosity for learning a wide variety of new technologies and areas of law. The candidate must have sound business and legal judgment, thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment, demonstrate an ability to provide both pragmatic and proactive legal advice, and negotiate complex joint development and licensing arrangements with partners and customers. The candidate must be able to independently scope, draft, and negotiate strategic innovation transactions with other leading technology companies.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Learning about new products/solutions under development, and effectively communicate identified legal risks with technical nuance.
Partnering with technology, marketing, sponsorship, sales, and others to develop and launch innovative products and solutions that will deliver the promise of the digital world to our customers.
Identifying and managing intellectual property issues associated with software and hardware development, including IP ownership, joint and independent development, client training, and risk mitigation.
Assessing legal issues associated with early platform development and go-to-market efforts, and engage with subject matter experts and stakeholders to address those issues.
Providing guidance and support on legal matters relating to software and hardware development, including identification of security, privacy, and intellectual property topics, collaboration with legal and business subject-matter experts, and recommendation of the path forward.
Drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts (including strategic co-development and license agreements, strategic non-disclosure agreements, customer and vendor agreements, trial agreements) to drive new initiatives with startups, technology companies, and enterprise customers.
Assisting in fact-gathering and analysis of existing and proposed rules, regulations and laws to support public policy and regulatory efforts on issues relevant to new product and business development.
Working and communicating effectively with colleagues across the company to drive technology development and commercial launches.
You'll need to have:
JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
Bar admission and good standing in at least one state and required licenses.
Experience in-house at a technology company or in combination with private practice handling transactions or litigation relating to technology or software development and strategic partnerships
Prior experience with federal and state privacy laws, telecommunications regulations, product development, intellectual property law, and/or industry consortia.
Hands-on experience structuring new agreements and strategies for high-visibility initiatives and incorporating requirements and input from a diverse set of internal stakeholders to articulate and achieve critical business objectives
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Undergraduate degree in engineering discipline or computer science.
Non-legal professional experience working with engineering, business development, or sales teams.
Experience in a startup or other high growth environment.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $151,000.00 and $280,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
