About this Role

POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

The Director of Construction Operations will lead the day-to-day operations of the construction department, overseeing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. The ideal candidate is a seasoned construction professional with a proven track record in managing large-scale commercial, residential, or industrial construction projects. This role requires strategic planning, leadership, and strong operational acumen to drive efficiency, safety, and profitability across all construction activities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage all construction operations, including project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and execution.
  • Oversee a team of project managers, superintendents, and site staff to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Develop and implement operational processes and best practices to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align construction strategies with overall company objectives.
  • Ensure all projects meet safety, regulatory, and compliance standards.
  • Review and approve project budgets, contracts, and schedules.
  • Monitor project performance metrics (KPIs) and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in construction methods, technology, and workforce training.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, resource plans, and workforce strategies.
  • Mentor and develop team members, promoting a culture of high performance and accountability.
  • Handle high-level problem solving and conflict resolution on active projects.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in construction management with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • 3+ years managing projects in the DOE space.
  • Hands on experience in the field leading construction teams on government projects.
  • Proven expertise in managing complex construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, scheduling, and project management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate large teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent financial acumen and experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with construction software such as Procore, Primavera, or similar tools.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and ethical business practices.
  • Must either already have or meet all requirements to secure a clearance with DOD and DOE within 12 months of hire.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CCM, LEED AP) are a plus.
