Job Description

The Company

PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.

We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.

We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards.  Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day.  We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Job Description Summary:

This role is to lead our European & MEA (Middle East & Africa) Merchant Analytics team. This leader will work directly with a number of senior leaders in the Global Markets team (e.g., VP of UK) as well as directly manage a team focused on solving problems for these stakeholders.

Job Description:

What you need to know about the role-
This manager will lead our European and Middle East and Africa (MEA) Merchant Analytics team, supporting all European markets, including the UK, Southern Europe, Northern Europe, DEATCH, ICE, and MEA. You will manage a team of five to six members located in India & Europe focused on supporting market leadership by providing regular reporting, driving new sales data, developing new models, and leading annual sales planning exercises.

Meet our team
This role is one of five Analytics leaders who will collaborate with our NA, APAC, Inside Sales/Partner, and CSM Merchant Analytics teams to drive growth across PayPal's full product portfolio. You will have a direct impact on the business by helping the Markets team meet their targets and increase PayPal’s profitability. The broader team supports a global set of stakeholders and our team has a wide geographic spread to maximize support!

Your way to impact

As the team leader, you will provide a range of support for our European and MEA stakeholders, as well as for the broader Global Analytics and Data Science (GADS) organization. You will spend approximately 50% of your time directly interfacing with business partners and stakeholders (e.g., VP-level leaders for individual European markets, senior Biz Ops partners) and the remaining 50% coaching and problem-solving with your team on larger ongoing projects. There is limited work you will have to do as individual contributor, but you should expect to become an expert on all of our team’s assets so you can answer questions for stakeholders, make improvement plans, and work customer back. Our team plays a critical role in driving new sales and portfolio growth through a combination of regular reporting, model development, and strategic planning support.

Your day to day

In your day-to-day role you will:

  • Seamlessly pivot between working with our stakeholder teams and managing your internal team of analysts.
  • Run regular meetings that our Analytics team supports (e.g., monthly operations reviews) where you will present findings that can materially impact the business.
  • Provide day-to-day assistance to your internal team as they build new models (e.g., predictive lead scoring for new sales), create presentations (e.g., operations review decks), and lead strategic exercises (e.g., annual segmentation planning).
  • Initiate new solutions and analytical models to support the business.
  • Represent our Analytics team in internal meetings with the broader GADS organization (e.g., work with BI team on dashboard strategy)

What do you need to bring-

  • Ability to effectively lead conversations with stakeholders by clearly explaining quantitative data and helping leaders understand how Analytics can drive their business forward.
  • Skills to help Market leaders identify the root of their problems and offer effective solutions while maintaining a strong thought partnership with them.
  • A solid background in data science (e.g., ability to write queries to pull data from tables) is essential for supporting your team's problem-solving efforts. A deep background in advanced topics like machine learning is not necessary. Although many of PayPal's data systems are unique, the tools we use to access them (e.g., Python, SQL) are fairly standard, and proficiency in these tools will enable you to successfully assist your internal team on their projects.
