About this Role

The Heavy Equipment Hauler is responsible for safely transporting large equipment, materials, and machinery to and from job sites in the transmission and distribution (T&D) industry. This role involves hauling specialized equipment such as digger derricks, cranes, backhoes, and bucket trucks to support the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission and distribution systems. The Heavy Equipment Hauler ensures compliance with all transportation regulations and safety standards while maintaining equipment and coordinating with field crews.This position requires extensive travel and extended work schedules to various job sites and involves significant physical demands, including loading and unloading heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions.** Positions are located in West & Central Texas **

What You'll Do

Job Responsibilities

  • Safely transport heavy equipment, materials, and machinery to and from job sites, including poles, transformers, digger derricks, cranes, and other large tools used in the transmission and distribution sector.
  • Load and unload equipment using proper techniques, ensuring the stability and safety of the cargo.
  • Secure loads with appropriate straps, chains, and other safety devices to prevent movement during transport.
  • Operate commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers and lowboy trailers to haul heavy loads over long distances or across difficult terrain.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and operated according to federal, state, and company regulations, including DOT requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including mileage, fuel usage, maintenance schedules, and cargo details.
  • Coordinate with job site supervisors and crew members to schedule timely delivery and retrieval of equipment.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safe operation.
  • Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations, including weight limits, load restrictions, and hazardous materials protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, project managers, and other team members to ensure equipment is delivered on schedule.
  • Troubleshoot and address basic mechanical issues during transport, as needed.

What You'll Bring

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A, with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience hauling heavy equipment, preferably in the construction or utility industries.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation safety standards, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Experience with flatbed, lowboy, and other specialized trailers for transporting heavy equipment.
  • Ability to load, secure, and transport large and irregularly shaped equipment safely.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic vehicle repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate challenging terrain.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work from heights.
  • Able to lift 60 lbs unassisted.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to work 60+ hours per week

Skills Requirements:

  • Possess critical thinking skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate with others.
  • Ability to communicate in writing.
