Job Description Summary:

PayPal is committed to delivering the best experience for our global developers. Our team designs experiences, testing and tooling capabilities critical for our developers to build and go-live with PayPal’s payment integrations across all segments.

We’re looking for a passionate Lead Product Manager, Developer Community, who will establish aspirational strategy to enable PayPal’s external developers’ community via the right product experiences. In this exciting role, you will craft strategies to build Developer community, service developers, and accelerate their engagement with PayPal using the Developer Platform.

You’ll foster partnerships with developer communities, championing developer’s interests and translating their feedback into actionable product insights. With your strategic vision, our team will bring strong developer-first programs via developer portal, communities, and social media platforms.

In this role, you will also be an organic developer evangelist and advocate – and bring the voice of developers to enhance future roadmaps and product strategy.

Your ability to work independently is important, and you will rely upon your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate opportunities internally and externally.

This job requires no travel, though you may have to travel for team collaboration events.

Job Description:

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and Execute Community Strategy & Roadmap: Partner with leadership to develop a Community Strategy that allows us to expand into new developer communities & channels. Collaborate with engineers, designers, researchers, program managers, community managers and data team to bring innovative and delightful community features to life.
  • Optimize conversion and build product growth loops: Improve conversion through our full funnel by optimizing the developer community experience that includes (not limited to) developer support via forums, FAQs, ticketing, or 3rd party platforms like Discord; developer learning via getting started materials via videos, quick start guides; developer adoption via incentives. Cater experiences to PayPal’s developer segments like freelancers, developer agencies, systems integrators, startups, and small-to-medium enterprises. Build new growth loops and accelerate our existing growth loops.
  • Build experiences to grow strategic technology partnerships: Build technical experiences for PayPal’s commerce and technology partners (cloud services, hyperscalers, ecommerce platforms, infrastructure providers, integration platforms, and API/SDK ecosystems) to enhance PayPal's Developer experiences and technology portfolio. Experience working with plugins, connectors and integration tools to scale developer platforms.  
  • Content Strategy: Expand developer engagement through SEO by capturing new and engaging existing developer segments in partnership with marketing, go-to-market, and product teams through optimizing or launching new landing pages and content. Measure usage of tactics like blogging, webinars, videos and determine best strategy to engage with developers.
  • Analytics & Operations: Deeply understand analytics and performance of channels and provide weekly updates on key metrics and progress. Partner with commercial partners to oversee key growth operations (conversion funnel, paid spend, content development, etc).
  • Manage diverse team: Lead a passionate developer community team of PMs & technical writers. Influence cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment across departments to achieve product objectives. Align with other product managers across PayPal to ensure a seamless, interconnected vision for our community platform.
  • Experience with agile software development practices and principles preferred.

Additional Opportunities:

  • Identify strategic partnership opportunities to grow our developer community:  Influence the direction of our developer products by gathering insights from our developer community and speaking to developers. Present strategy and roadmap to senior leadership teams to inspire path-breaking solutions for developers.
  • Lead partnerships with Engineering to build incubator, innovation, and accelerator programs - Partner with innovative software & solutions partners, including startups, to create transformative value for end customers. Develop frameworks to deploy inspiring demos, sample apps, and continuously improve the developer experience of our APIs and SDKs via social channels.
  • Champion PayPal’s developer products in person and online - by presenting at conferences, writing technical tutorials, publishing articles and videos

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Business, Marketing, Communications, Computer or related technical field
  • 10+ years of Product Management experience
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and collaborate across cross-functional teams and departments to drive projects and initiatives forward.
  • Experience working with 3rd party platforms such as e-commerce platforms, cloud providers, technology hyperscalers is preferred. 
  • Fluency in English. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A proactive mindset with a relentless drive to achieve and innovate.
  • Experience in synthesizing multiple information sources into actionable recommendations. Proficiency in collecting, prioritizing, and responding to feedback from various sources, including the community, customers, cross-functional partners, competitors, and leadership.
