Private Wealth Management (PWM) is part of the Asset and Wealth Management Division of Goldman Sachs. PWM provides a comprehensive range of investment and banking services (including discretionary investment management, investment advice, execution services, deposits and lending) to wealthy individuals and families worldwide, across a diversified range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, structured products, derivatives, hedge funds and other alternative investments. In EMEA, PWM focuses primarily on individuals, families and family offices based in EMEA, who invest through a wide variety of investment vehicles including corporates, trusts, partnerships, regulated and unregulated funds, in a broad range of jurisdictions.

Role Responsibilities 

Currently, the EMEA Wealth Management Legal team comprises ten lawyers in the UK (split across London and Birmingham), three lawyers in Zurich and two lawyers in Frankfurt, all of whom regularly work closely with colleagues in PWM Legal in the US and Asia. Lawyers in Wealth Management Legal work closely with a diverse group of clients across the PWM businesses, often collaborating with colleagues in the broader Legal Division, and thrive on the pressures of delivering consistently high quality advice to dynamic and constantly evolving businesses.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, proactive and resilient candidate in London or Birmingham for a broad role support the Capital Markets, Private Bank and Regulatory teams within Wealth Management Legal.  The role requires the ability to work independently from day one and to manage a diverse and complex workload, ranging from transactional work (predominantly focused on loan transactions) to advising on regulatory implications of existing and new business initiatives and implementing new regulatory requirements.

More specifically, the Role Responsibilities include:

• Structuring and drafting documentation relating to lending products, ranging from securities-based loans, consumer loans, deposits and UK regulated mortgages, through to more structured asset-backed loans and real estate financings.
• Advising on collateral enforceability and security registration across EMEA jurisdictions.
• Advising on the current regulatory regime in EMEA impacting the Capital Markets and Private Bank businesses, such as CRD, MiFID2, MAR, EMIR, consumer credit and mortgage regulation, and jurisdictional licensing requirements in the context of securities and banking transactions. 
• Assisting with the identification of new regulations that may impact the Capital Markets and Private Bank businesses. 
• Impact analysis and implementation of regulatory requirements either in the context of regulatory change or business expansion initiatives and advising our businesses on regulatory matters in the context of securities and banking transactions. 
• Supporting the Capital Markets and Private Bank businesses on new product and platform launches and business transformation projects. 
• Liaising with other lawyers in the Goldman Sachs Legal Division globally on regulatory interpretation, advocacy and implementation. 
• Liaising with outside counsel on a broad range of domestic and cross border jurisdictional issues. 

Skills / Experience 

• We are targeting qualified lawyers at a minimum of 4 years post qualification, either with prior lending and/or derivatives transactional experience or general financial services advisory experience with a willingness to move into a transactional role. 
• Candidates may have relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm and/or as in-house counsel. 
• Knowledge of a major European language is useful but not essential.
