RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Global Banking & Markets - Equities Legal is looking for an experienced attorney to support the Global Banking & Markets Division in connection with its Systematic Trading Strategies (STS) business in the Americas. This attorney will provide general legal advice on trading strategies, including creation of proprietary indices, used for both institutional and retail products (including structured notes). In the institutional space, the attorney will oversee the structuring of the trading strategies and review and advise on all operative documents in connection with the strategies and related products. In the retail space, the attorney will assist and oversee proprietary index structuring and methodology drafting, structure and negotiate operative agreements for proprietary index use, stay abreast of, and advise on, regulatory developments relating to proprietary indices used in insurance products and exchange traded funds (ETFs), and be responsible for index methodology disclosure. In addition, the attorney will also assist on structured products issuances in the Americas focusing, in particular, on structuring and disclosure matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice in connection with systematic trading strategies (STS), including GS proprietary indices, and their use in both the institutional and retail spaces 
  • Provide legal oversight in connection with regulatory requirements and updates related to use of proprietary indices in insurance products and exchange traded funds (ETFs)
  • Provide index disclosure drafting and oversight for retail products, both registered and unregistered, including SEC-registered structured products 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders to identify and help mitigate legal and reputational risks, including through conflicts disclosure
  • Instruct/work with/manage external counsel

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years post qualification experience at a leading law firm or equivalent experience at a large financial institution.
  • J.D. required; Active member of NY Bar in good standing.
  • Knowledge of and experience with index methodologies and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of and experience with disclosure for retail products, including structured notes. 
  • Excellent communications skills, in particular the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and simply, and to present clear choices.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with ability to respond and be flexible to client demands while adhering to firm policies and group practices.
  • Ability to engage proactively as an advisor to the business and collaboratively work with other control areas.
  • Self-starter, strong work ethic and personal accountability.

Salary Range 

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $170000-$270000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
