Verizon seeks a qualified Managing Associate General Counsel to lead its Real Estate Legal team. This position will report to a Vice President & Deputy General Counsel. In this role, you will lead a team of approximately two other real estate lawyers and two paralegals. You will handle or oversee transactional legal advice and support for the sale, purchase, lease, and development activity within the Company’s sizeable real estate portfolio, as well as provide legal advice and support on eminent domain and land use / zoning issues across a geographically diverse footprint. You can expect to handle or oversee a significant volume of transactions and issues, from routine to complex, each year.
The ideal candidate must have excellent negotiation skills, strong subject matter expertise, strong leadership skills, sound business and contract judgment, a calm demeanor, and the ability to effectively lead a team and achieve results in a high pressure and deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will work out of Verizon’s Basking Ridge, New Jersey, or Manhattan, New York offices; if the latter, you will be expected to work 1-2 days a week in Basking Ridge and as needed.
Key Responsibilities include:
Lead a team of lawyers and paralegals supporting real estate legal advice and transactions.
Engage with and support Verizon’s Global Real Estate team and provide holistic legal support for the business with strong communication at the executive level.
Become an expert in Verizon’s real estate portfolio across central office / network sites, administrative offices and call center sites, data centers, garage work centers, warehouses, and retail stores.
Create the overall legal strategy for excellence in transactional support as well as real estate risk assessment.
Communicate and collaborate effectively and collegially with stakeholders at all levels of the Company.
Engage and closely partner with outside counsel, and manage legal support across all Verizon real estate in a cost-effective way.
Share and integrate lessons learned to continuously improve company practices in real estate.
Provide training and mentorship to team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
You’ll need to have:
JD and 10 or more years of experience in real estate transactions, including complex transactions and issues involving zoning and land use, across a geographically diverse footprint.
An ability to work well with and support key business-side stakeholders, including at the executive level.
Strong communication skills and oral presentation skills.
A proven record of demonstrating sound independent judgment and an ability to manage other attorneys and legal staff.
The ability to handle a high volume of work with exceptional attention to detail.

Significant experience with real estate matters in northeastern states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, among others).

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $205,000.00 and $381,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
