What You’ll Get to Do:

As a Senior Subject Matter Expert in Marine Engineering, you will perform as an individual technical contributor and lead projects which includes oversight of engineers, designers, analysts, and sub-contractors who provide our NAVSEA/NSWC/MSC/USCG/FMS Technical and Program Office clients with superb engineering support in developing the next Navy ships and providing engineering support to existing vessels. You will perform as a key engineering lead directly supporting our key MSC clients primarily in support of auxiliary and special mission ships but also our Navy clients, including aircraft carriers, combatants, amphibious, from program initiation through concept, design, construction, life cycle, and fleet support. As a technical lead, you will ensure engineering and Quality Assurance standards are met for the mechanical engineering team(s). You will stay current in modern ship design requirements and analysis technologies. You will be a self-starter, perform as a team player across multiple engineering management teams, and support technical proposal development as needed.

 

The Primary Focus for this role is an SME role in mechanical deck systems (e.g. Cranes), SME in Refrigerant and HVAC systems and SME Role in the USCG Marine Safety Requirements.  Candidate will have a background in design of marine mechanical systems including compressed air, lubricating and fuel oil(s), cooling water, ventilation and air conditioning, and associated control systems. Candidate will be familiar with prime movers for propulsion and generating machinery such as medium and high-speed diesel engines, gas turbines, and marine boilers. Candidate will be expected to maintain functional understanding of changes in regulatory aspects of machinery design including classification notations. Candidate will be well-versed in mechanical design resources and will improve team efficiency and functionality in concept and detailed design deliverables by staying current in modern design.

More About the Role:

  • Ensures that NAVSEA/NSWC/MSC/USCG/FMS Clients, Technical Warrant Holders, and Ship Design Managers receive accurate technical advice in a timely fashion.
  • Meets with key NAVSEA, NSWC, MSC, and PEO customers to determine future engineering and technical needs in the marketplace.
  • Develops and improves design processes for mechanical modification and installation packages to improve quality and timeliness of customer deliverables.  Supports other discipline teams, e.g., structural and electrical, with monitoring progress and performing reviews of deliverables.
  • Fosters a strong mentorship culture so that young employees receive training and oversight as they mature into fully capable engineers.
  • Attends ship checks and provides assistance and leadership across disciplines.
  • Develops Subject Matter Experts who take ownership of key main and auxiliary systems.
  • Ability to support specific areas in proposals and targeted growth areas, with willingness to learn larger Proposal support efforts.
  • Self-Starter, multi-task capability, technically savvy, interpersonal skills, team player and ability to market our CACI team capabilities.
  • Client interface with acquisition and multiple technical program PMs, PAPMs, SDMs, TWHs, SEMs, DIMs are required to provide technical solutions and recommendations and ensure complete customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to enter and gain a foothold in new markets such as Amphibs, Combatants, Carriers, FMS Programs, USCG Programs, Unmanned Maritime Systems (UMSs) and/or Unmanned Maritime Vehicles (UMVs) other markets in 05Z/05P/05S, etc.
  • Explicit Knowledge of ABS MVR/ABS NVR, NAVY SPECs (e.g., GSO/NCDS/NSTM,TPUBs, Mil-Std) and Commercial Specs (ASME, ASTM, ANSI) and standards is a must.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related degree or proven experience in industry.
  • US Citizen with an Active Secret Clearance.
  • Twenty years of experience in US Naval Ship Engineering, either within the NAVSEA/PEO. Governmental Organizations, Shipyard Construction and Repair, Ship Operations, NAVSEA contractor support, USCG Expertise or Similar.
  • Experience briefing complex technical issues (including performance, cost, schedule, and risk implications) to decision makers.
  • Strong analytical skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Fifteen years of experience performing as a key lead of a NAVSEA or MSC engineering team projects comprised of least 10 FTEs and Across HM&E disciplines.
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related degree.
  • Lead engineer for Former NAVSEA Ship Design Manager, USCG Deck or Engineering License.
  • Ability to Grow MSC Cyber and Controls systems engineering support to in-service design and ultimately in development and growth in all phases of the ship design spiral.
  • PE in Mechanical Engineering.

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$94,400 - $198,300
