Job Description:

The Opportunity:

Engineering Manager with Naval/Marine ship construction expertise: This work will require extended initial travel. 2 to 3 weeks onsite in Wisconsin and back home for remote work for 1 week before resuming the onsite requirement.

  • Manage all resources associated with completing the goals and objectives of the Engineering Department as related to new Ship construction objectives. 

  • Engineering Manager will assist other engineering staff managers in defining Contract Requirements as related to all acquired Ship Design and Build Projects as well as those for which proposals are to be developed.

  • Define department resources needed to meet the departmental commitments and coordinate the departments’ personnel to achieve said commitments. 

  • Engineering Manager may interface with other trade discipline Project Engineers as well as the Project Managers to ensure required resources, project goals and objectives are maintained.

  • Engineering Manager will assume various “high level” roles within the department as required. This will include but not be limited to bid and proposal development.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Establish resource requirements and manage as needed.

  • Establish/develop/modify, maintain, and measure departmental capabilities and objectives as related to Engineering Efforts.

  • Develop/refresh training regimens on a departmental basis to strengthen and enhance on a regular basis.

    • Standard process updates and reviews

    • Department process enhancements and improvements

    • Customer (manufacturing) process productivity improvement

  • Mentor project leaders as to enhance individual capabilities, strengthen individual weaknesses, and enforce departmental processes.

  • Report and status department performance to the Director of Engineering.

  • Interface with “Other” Functional Departments (Program Management, Production Control, Purchasing, and Manufacturing) as required to assure proper department support is being made available.

  • Establish and maintain overhead budgets associated with the operation of the department.

  • Develop and take “ownership” of project related Engineering Dept. budgets established during the Bid and Estimating Process.

    • Create/review/refresh parametric requirements to effectively estimate Engineering Department costs.

    • Validate estimates.

  • Participate in development of bids and proposals.

    • Interface with suppliers.

    • Interface with assigned Engineering staff.

    • Add staff (subcontractors) as required to support efforts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 2 to 20 employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 10 years of shipyard experience, focused on engineering and production, or 15 years of similar experience in shipbuilding – required.

  • Experience managing technical teams in engineering and production, with a track record of successful completion of work within budget and schedule – required.

  • Familiarity with classification organization and maritime rule sets, foreign and domestic - required. Both defense and commercial shipbuilding experience - desired. 

  • Both defense and commercial shipbuilding experience - desired. 

  • Experience managing ship alterations - desired.

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$89,500-$188,000
