What You'll Do

JOB TITLE: Sr. Piping Designer

NorthStar Energy Services is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Piping Designer to join the Professional Engineering Consulting team. The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced team of designers and professional engineers who specialize in Energy Projects.

POSITION SUMMARY:The Piping Designer for this position will be responsible for the piping design deliverables of concurrent projects from concept design through to the successful completion of various drawing issuances and submission of final project as-built drawings.

What You'll Bring

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • DESIGN
    • Generate 3D piping models utilizing CADWorx plant 2018 or later version.
    • Generate equipment models utilizing CADWorx Equipment
    • Isometric extraction in a 3D model environment utilizing CADWorx Isogen
    • Expertise in equipment and piping layout from concept PFD & P&ID
    • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines,
    • Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of piping designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.
    • Prepare drawings and concept sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
    • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc. to piping lead.

  • DRAFTING
    • Prepare orthographic drawings from 3D models that incorporate Industrial Standards
    • Prepare plans, sections, details, and Isometric view drawings. Assess and provides sufficient product views and details to communicate information and or data needed for fabrication. Experience with implementing Xref drawing files.
    • Generate bill of materials (BOM's) from 3D models and assist the process team in compiling process deliverables.
    • Recent work experience in 2D detail drawings and conversant with drafting standards to complete IFA (Issued for Approval), IFB (Issued for Bid), IFC (Issued for Construction) and As-built drawing packages in accordance with company standard drawing format and procedures.
    • Applies quality control processes, checklists, and ability to take ownership and accountability for completed work.

  • DELIVERABLE MANAGEMENT
  • Research, review, and application of Company Standards, Municipality Requirements, and Regulatory Codes
  • Perform independent QA/QC of drawing deliverables.
  • Verify structural and site-development layout meets project design intent.
  • Support Professional Engineers during project design phase (standards review, gather calculation inputs, gather permitting requirements, and other engineering activities) as needed.
  • Coordinate and communicate project-specific piping/mechanical deliverables with team members of all disciplines.
  • Review of other discipline drawings to ensure piping/mechanical drawings are properly illustrated.
  • Perform field related work to obtain design information and verify designs for tie-ins as needed.
  • Review and respond to RFI's throughout project-life.
  • Review of third-party vendor drawings to ensure compatibility with intended piping/mechanical design.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • GENERAL
    • US citizen or Permanent Resident
    • Select candidates will be required to participate in an in-person CAD test as part of the technical interview process.

 

  • SKILLS & ABILITIES
    • Ability to react promptly and efficiently shift priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Ability to elicit cooperation from a variety of sources including team members, project managers, and other disciplines.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills.
    • Capability to conduct independent research into project-related issues and products.
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in the following software/programs:
      • AutoCAD
      • CADWorx
      • Navisworks
      • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Detailed knowledge in the application of Codes and Standards, including but not limited to:
      • Piping Design Systems, ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8

  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    • Associates or Bachelors' degree in Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering
      • In lieu of degree, 7+ years of related design experience.
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in the midstream or petrochemical sector
