The Sustainability Project Manager, Strategic Initiatives is a multi-faceted, strategic decision making position that involves research and benchmarking, external liaison responsibilities, and sustainability metric development/monitoring. You will be responsible for monitoring and advising on existing and upcoming regulations, trends, and news that may impact the work and progress of the Verizon Sustainability team. You will work as the sustainability team liaison for the Policy, Federal, SLED, and Int’l Policy teams at Verizon. You will also represent Verizon in various industry associations, and will advise the Sustainability Senior Director on opportunities for sustainable technology solutions. 

Verizon has a suite of public goals related to scope 1 and 2 emissions reductions and renewable energy. You will focus on achieving that goal domestically and internationally through engagement with Verizon facilities, fleet, and network operations. This entails developing relationships, setting engagement strategy by Verizon business unit, reporting on goals around adoption of sustainability initiatives, and tracking the implementation of those initiatives. 

  • Project manage Verizon efforts and progress toward scope 1 and 2 emissions goals,  incorporating sustainability into all related business units.

  • Analyze potential regulatory and/or other external impacts to our business and recommend appropriate initiatives helping to set the strategy for Verizon.

  • Support development of external communications about sustainability programs.

  • Make recommendations for program enhancements based on benchmarking and industry data.

  • Support executive communications and internal/external messaging around their respective programs in mediums such as the Annual Report, ESG Report, and Verizon’s intranet.

  • Own multiple third party relationships including industry partnerships for key sustainability programs.

  • Manage Sustainability team and Sustainability Steering Committee KPIs, documenting results, hosting and leading third party review meetings and annual results discussions.

  • Support benchmarking and results submissions in the area of climate and environment for industry recognitions and tracking results.

  • Provide information to the sustainability communications lead as needed.

What we’re looking for…

You have a detailed understanding of renewable energy, the sustainability and climate sectors, and other key sustainability concepts. You have a passion for the environment and leading others, and are able to communicate effectively on complex issues to various audiences.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.

  • Relevant work expeirence in project/program management

  • Relevant experience in sustainability or environmental management.

  • Sustainability industry benchmarking experience.

  • Experience in partnership development.

  • Excellent executive communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to network, build influential relationships, and engage support for initiatives across organizations.

  • Exceptional problem solving skills, issue identification, problem structuring, development of actionable recommendations.

  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • BS degree in environmental science, sustainability, or engineering.

  • MBA or MS.

  • Excellent Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills.

  • Financial, analytical, and benchmarking skills.

  • Self-starter mindset with a passion for the environment.

  • Experience in telecommunication and wireless industry.
