The Verizon Corporate Information Security (CIS) organization securely enables the business by protecting assets and information across Verizon networks, infrastructure and applications. CIS integrates cybersecurity governance, policies, technologies and operations across Verizon, and works to incorporate security into the design of technology systems and services.

The Managed Cyber Services Team is responsible for identity and access

management through securing employee access to our core applications and systems in the most efficient, compliant and user-friendly manner, innovatively using the latest industry standards and tools. The team focuses on supporting security request processes including user access, digital certificates and certificate authorities, firewall requests, proxy requests, and the automated processes associated with those requests. The Managed Cyber Services team is seeking a Security Engineer to join our Tier 2 team with the experience and skills to focus on our efforts around automation, certificate management, or evaluating the risk associated with firewall and proxy requests.  The selected candidate will perform the role of technical lead and subject matter expert in one or more of those focus areas.



What you’ll be doing...

The Security Engineer IV will be responsible for:

  • Tier 2 support for Robotic Process Automation (RPA), firewall and proxy request risk evaluation, and digital certificate management.

  • Providing training and technical guidance to team members and end users.

  • Creating requirements for access request forms, creating and maintaining knowledge articles for the access request portal.

  • Developing internal and external documentation, such as detailed procedures, playbooks, and operational metrics reports.

  • Driving continuous improvements in process efficiency.

  • Automation of tasks leveraging RPA, API’s and scripting languages.

  • Performing risk analysis and decision-making for complex firewall rule requests and proxy exception requests.

  • Acting as the interface between Managed Cyber Services Tier 1 and the Tier 3 Engineering teams by accepting, resolving, or further escalating requests for assistance in the focus areas of RPA, risk evaluation, or certificate management

  • Advanced digital certificate generation, including cross-signed certificates.

  • Vendor management.

  • On-call support for emergencies and escalations.

  • Ensuring completion of requests within published SLA’s; monitor ticket queues to ensure tickets are being worked effectively.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.

  • Hands on experience with managing digital certificates, firewalls, or robotic process automation.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree.

  • CCNP Security or other related certifications.

  • CISSP, CISM or related certification.

  • Familiarity with Confluence, Jira, Service Now or similar workflow management tools.

  • Expert knowledge of IP Networking including routing, firewalls, ports, and protocols.

  • Experience assessing network security risks in the areas of proxies, digital certificates, and firewall configuration changes.

  • Experience working in an environment regulated by SOX, PCI DSS, or other similar controls

  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, and directory technologies.

  • Working knowledge of access management functions including RBAC and permission management.

  • Excellent debugging skills working within complex systems.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to research new techniques and technologies that yield cost-effective results.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize, and organize to meet deadlines.

  • Vendor management experience.

  • Experience developing and analyzing metrics and reports.

  • A thorough and detail-oriented work approach.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $95,000.00 and $176,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
