The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a Security Engineer with expert experience managing Tanium and Tenable security tools in a production environment. This SME will lead the management, optimization, and execution of DHS’s Tanium and Tenable implementations and oversee a small team of Security Engineers. The ideal candidate will also lead and mentor the team of mid-career and senior engineers while driving security initiatives using the Tenable and Tanium tools.

The Security Engineer - SME should feel comfortable not only setting expectations for the team but assisting with escalations and onsite tasks as they arise. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Security Engineer who shows initiative and demonstrates excellent customer service, communication, and analytical skills. The candidate will be organized, and results driven. In this role, the candidate will work as a mentor and teacher, working to identify skills gaps and working to fill them through training and performance improvement. The candidate will have the opportunity to merge their experience with vulnerability analyses with that of other security engineers, systems engineers, and teammates to ensure the customer’s systems are always mission ready.

Responsibilities:

The Security Engineer - SME will:

  • Lead and manage a team of mid-career and senior security engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and career development

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on Tenable and Tanium tools within the organization, advising on best practices and advanced use cases

  • Analyze vulnerability scan results and prioritize remediation efforts based on risk assessment.

  • Collaborate with systems and other security tool teams to ensure timely patching and mitigation of vulnerabilities.

  • Generate regular reports on vulnerability status and trends for executive leadership.

  • Stay current with emerging security threats and vulnerabilities, adjusting strategies as needed.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for the Tenable and Tanium security tools, including processes, and procedures.

  • Participate in incident response activities as needed.

    Qualifications:

    Required: 

  • Ability to attain DHS EOD

  • ITIL V4 Foundations certification (or obtain in first 6 months)

  • Masters Degree +10 years of experience or Bachelors Degree and 13 years of experience

  • Expert-level knowledge of Tanium and Tenable

  • Experience leading a team of technical experts

  • 8 or more years of hands-on experience in enterprise IT support, at least 5 years focused on vulnerability management

  • Experience managing engineers with varying skill levels

  • Strong understanding of network security, operating systems, and common vulnerabilities

  • Professional, customer-oriented, and even-keeled under pressure

  • Effective communicator at all levels, both written and verbal

    Desired:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash) and regular expressions

  • Knowledge of machine learning and advanced analytics in security contexts

  • Security +, CEH, GPEN, OSEP, etc.

  • CISSP certification

  • Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP)

    Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.     The proposed salary range for this position is:

    $119,800 - $263,600
