What you’ll be doing...

Responsibilities of the job include:

  • Developing and implementing the company’s local engagement strategy in support of Verizon’s  goals with a focus on addressing issues involving technology deployment and broadband.

  • Representing Verizon at the local and municipal levels in Southern California, partnering with state, federal and local community leaders as needed to advance the goals of the business.

  • Strengthening Verizon’s impact, brand and reputation through strategic community engagement and extensive government and advocacy experience. 

  • Developing strong relationships with mayors, city councilmembers, county supervisors and other local elected officials and staff for the purpose of growing Verizon’s local impact.

  • Managing local legislative activities and keeping management informed of pending legislation, partnering with Verizon’s state and federal regulatory and government affairs teams as needed to ensure that any local legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company. 

  • Implementing a strategic plan to partner with industry partners, community based organizations, business and trade associations and other third party supporters of the company’s goals.

  • Providing team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders; developing strategic messaging. 

  • Representing Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at local committee meetings/hearings that address municipal or local agency legislation impacting the business.



What we’re looking for…

What you’ll need to have: 

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and / or military experience, or specialized training. 

  • Experience in public policy, regulatory, government affairs or community engagement.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the local level.

  • Strong network of California contacts with local government officials and community leaders organizations.

  • Experience with coalition building and working with industry partners and community based organizations.

  • Willingness to travel 20 - 50% of the time.

  • Ability to travel within territory in personally owned vehicle.

  • Ability to work both during normal business hours as well as evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability.


Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Strong advocacy, negotiation and communications skills, both verbal and written.

  • Proven ability to navigate complex problems, build consensus, and collaborate on mutually beneficial solutions.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

  • Unwavering commitment to ethics and legal compliance.

  • Experience managing lobbyists or working for a lobbying or law firm with a lobbying practice. Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity.

  • Knowledge of public policy issues in the communications, cable, or utilities industries.

  • Knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $111,000.00 and $206,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Verizon will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative.
