What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is undergoing a transformation from a telecommunications company to a technology company, and we are in search of the next generation of technology specialists to help us drive forward.  An important piece of this initiative is enabling a common platform (APIGEE) with the right tools for different development teams to build their API’s.  The engineering  manager works with the API product managers and architects to stand up the centralized team for managing and deploying API gateway/ proxies. This is a senior role responsible for managing development, testing, deployment and support teams across the vendors. The role will be responsible for the platform - development, maintenance, support - and future proofing it for scale

The manager will lead a team of API developers, providing them with guidance, setting targets, to enable this transformation.



What we’re looking for...

  • Leading the implementation of the platform by guiding developers, QA and DevOps. 

  • Leading development teams and vendors to manage the API-First  portfolio of products from development to delivery.

  • Automating processes to develop and deploy API Gateway and Server infrastructure in a scalable automated fashion following industry best practice.

  • Deploying product updates, identifying production issues, and implementing integrations that meet our customers' needs.

  • Ensuring that infrastructure and software deployment follows established processes and works as intended.

  • Providing subject matter expertise to product, technology and development teams for API platform.

  • Communicating product benefits to customers, end users, and internal stakeholders.

  • Building strong cross-functional partnerships at multiple levels within the company, including commercial, engineering, marketing, sales, and services.



You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience in developing and architecting enterprise applications.

  • Experience in launching and building API and API programs.

  • Solid background in development, DevOps and significant experience delivering solutions 

  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Experience in evangelizing and securing the buy-in of executives to developers for business transformation initiatives.

  • Experience in running enterprise-wide chapters for API or enterprise architecture conformity across organization

  • Subject matter expert with deployments in a hybrid cloud environment 

  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows

  • Expert-level experience with tools for API Interaction

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
