What You’ll Get to Do:

Senior Mechanical/ Marine Engineer providing direct support to Navy T-Ship Design Manager (SDM) and responsible for leading a team of engineers in the design, development, and construction of propulsion and machinery systems and interfaces with shipboard and mission systems for the T-Ship acquisition programs.

Position can be worked from the Washington Navy Yard or remotely.

More About the Role:

  • Development of ship propulsion and control systems specifications including but not limited to diesel-electric propulsion systems,  propellers, rudder, thrusters, and their interface with dynamic positioning systems.
  • Development of marine auxiliary and piping systems, review and analyzing preliminary and functional design documentation and development of ship system specifications.
  • Review and analysis of mechanical and electrical propulsion systems, and auxiliary/ piping systems for technical data packages developed to support design and construction of T-Ships.
  • Development of machinery arrangements, weight assessments, propulsion integration and auxiliary systems.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 - 20 years’ experience in ship machinery system design, particularly with the use of integrated electric plants
  • Conduct trade studies to determine suitable configuration for prime movers, Generators, propulsion and thruster drive trains, gears, motors, power converters, and other marine machinery.
  • Conduct FMEA analysis and procedural validations to determine suitable configuration and compliance with propulsion motors, power converters, and thrusters and all other DPS redundant components
  • Detailed knowledge of U.S. Regulatory Body standards and ability to develop and prepare ship machinery documents for compliance with ABS Rules.
  • Experience with Military Sealift Command (MSC) marine engineering practices.
  • Experience in leadership role of an engineering team
  • BS Mechanical or Marine Engineering degree

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

- Understanding of design tools including AutoCAD

- Strong writing skills and ability to prepare technical reports and papers

- Understanding and familiarity with Microsoft Office Software suite

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$68,400-$143,700
