Navy Federal’s Digital department is responsible for delivering and improving digital experiences across all touch points for members and team members. The Digital Risk Office is a primary liaison for compliance, regulatory, internal audits, business continuity, and third-party risk; we work with our business partners in identifying and assessing the key operational risks and effectiveness of controls that address those risks for our Digital business line partners.  Our technical governance team plays a critical role in ensuring that our business partners can achieve sustainable growth by providing proactive risk management solutions throughout development and production. 

The Summer Associate will work in a flexible hybrid manner and report to leadership at our Vienna, VA campus. Responsibilities will include analyzing data and helping to build out our dashboards in Power BI that help create recommendations, influence decision makers, or tell a story using the data that we have. Areas of focus are to assist with our data governance and technical compliance team to identify, coordinate, document, and implement business requirements by assisting us determining solutions that enhance business operations. Analyzing business needs to develop and implement solutions that leverage systems and process with latitude. Work with the business to understand their needs and enhance the business process within our risk team to promote new functionality. Using a basic knowledge of technology and specific software application, assist the risk and business line implement strategic vision through technology.

This role will be a member of the Technical Operations Risk & Governance team – a diverse group of data analyst, privacy analyst, and program managers that will assist in enabling and supporting our business line groups within Digital. We apply these skills daily as we represent Digital Risk Office on building out various reporting initiatives, deep-dive analyses and support executive leadership in the execution of the strategic direction of our team, risk analysis, and our Digital technological roadmap.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2025 and ending in August 2025. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2025 or later.

Qualifications
  • Currently nearing the completion of bachelor’s degree or pursuing a master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related degree.
  • Experience with research, analysis, and data manipulation.
  • Experience using data and analytic tools such as: PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, Python, R, or Tableau. 
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfort working with large datasets and telling stories with data.
  • Ability to work independently and think outside of the box.
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills.
  • Basic knowledge of financial services/payments a plus.
  • Experience in problem resolution including determining root cause, scope and scale of issues.
  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to research, compile, and document data, business processes, and workflow.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing, data cleaning, and other analytical techniques required for data usage.
  • Desire to build risk knowledge and understanding of risk-based auditing techniques and methodologies.
Responsibilities
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis using analytical techniques, tools, models, simulation, etc.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and management of reporting, dashboards, data models and analytical results.
  • Develops, recommends, and documents adjustments to workflow to streamline processes. Analyze information, requirements, data, work quality, work methods, processes, service specific practices, standards and metrics/statistics.
  • Uses elicitation techniques to gather information at the right level of detail and scope to represent all the stakeholder's needs.
  • Ensure preventative, detective, and corrective controls are properly identified and documented for data governance.
  • Manage and conduct research and analysis to determine any downstream impacts of new regulatory guidance, practices, and expectations; make recommendations for changes to Business Unit processes based on analysis.
  • Perform periodic reviews of existing regulatory policies, procedures, and exam guidance, and implement necessary updates to business unit processes and procedures as needed.
