Navy Federal’s Enterprise Risk – Data Risk Governance team is responsible for driving enterprise-wide data governance excellence by establishing best practices, fostering collaboration, and ensuring compliance to enhance data quality and trust.

Data Risk Governance leads the following areas:

  • Develops, matures & maintains Enterprise Data Governance framework which includes the policies, instructions, and standards related to data risk and governance.
  • Matures the Navy Federal data risk culture through training and communication.
  • Provides data risk insight & oversight through independent assessments, monitoring, and effective challenge for the enterprise.
  • Reports on data risk effective challenge, oversight, and analysis.

The Summer Associate will gain valuable experience and exposure to data risk governance best practices, capabilities, and oversight activities. 

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2025 and ending in August 2025. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2025 or later.

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree (BS or MS preferred) 
  • Preferred coursework/capstone work focused on data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, business analytics/intelligence, or decision-science - with an ongoing desire to gain deep expertise
  • Experience using data and analytic tools such as Excel, Tableau, PowerBI; exposure to data governance tools & capabilities (ex: Databricks, Collibra, Alation) desirable
  • Data science and analysis programming exposure (ex: Python, SQL, R) a plus
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
  • Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Responsibilities
  • Summer Associates will work on projects in the areas of:
    • Researching emerging data risks, leading data governance risk management tools/capabilities, best practices & control frameworks 
    • Performing operational support to the Data Risk Governance program, including managing stakeholder intake requests, reporting on workflow tracking execution & completion, identifying areas for process improvement, and providing inputs to key performance indicators & metrics
    • Supporting Data Risk Governance stakeholder training, engagement, and communications planning, coordination, and execution
  • Provide day-to-day operational support
  • Perform other duties as assigned
