About this Role

The Groundman is an entry-level position in the telecommunications industry, responsible for supporting line crews in constructing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunication systems. This role involves performing physical tasks on the ground, assisting by preparing tools, handling materials, and ensuring a safe work environment. The Groundman plays a crucial role in keeping operations running smoothly and efficiently.This position requires field work, including overtime, weekends, holidays, off-hours, and working in inclement weather.

What You'll Do

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist line crews by gathering, organizing, and handing tools, materials, and equipment as needed.
  • Perform ground-level work, including clearing job sites, digging trenches, and setting up work zones.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following safety protocols and clearing hazards from the job site.
  • Help with installing and maintaining fiber by providing necessary support from the ground.
  • Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and equipment under supervision.
  • Assist with transporting materials and equipment to and from job sites.
  • Communicate with crew members to ensure smooth operations and workflow.
  • Attend safety meetings and adhere to all safety regulations, including using personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Position requires a minimum of 40% travel, with the potential for additional travel as needed based on project demands.

What You'll Bring

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior drill crew experience preferred
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions from experienced linemen and supervisors.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools preferred.
  • Walking and working across uneven terrain.
  • Valid Driver's License and a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work from heights.
  • Able to lift 60 lbs unassisted.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.

Skills Requirements:

  • Possess critical thinking skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate with others.
  • Ability to communicate in writing.
