Job Description

We are seeking a Trader/Analyst II to support our mortgage loan sales program by evaluating market trends and loan pipeline data to measure and manage interest rate and liquidity risk. This role will assist in developing and executing strategies to protect mortgage loan value, maximize profitability, and provide liquidity, income, and support for growth through loan securitization and sales into the secondary markets. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a dynamic trading and risk management team with opportunities for growth and advancement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
  • Experience in a Secondary Marketing or Capital Markets role, including mortgage pipeline hedging, risk management, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform complex mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Proficiency in SQL and process scripting software for financial data analysis and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel and database management skills for risk assessment and modeling.
  • Strong research, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a high level of integrity and judgment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.
  • Adaptability and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or progress toward completion.
  • Proficiency in Mortgage Banking Risk Framework (QRM) and mortgage-related financial modeling.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage banking accounting, including origination, secondary marketing, and servicing.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate effectively to drive positive business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Market & Risk Analysis:

  • Assess mortgage-related data, risk management system reports, and real-time market information from sources such as Bloomberg, TradeWeb, and vendor market services.
  • Monitor and interpret mortgage market and economic conditions to identify risks and opportunities for increasing loan sale profitability.
  • Deliver daily global economic updates, assess potential impacts on hedging strategies, and recommend action plans.
  • Monitor income margin targets by reviewing mortgage loan pricing and identifying areas for optimization.

Trading & Execution:

  • Ensure best execution of mortgage loan sales by evaluating market conditions and pricing opportunities.
  • Enter and manage forward and futures market hedges to mitigate interest rate risk.
  • Oversee mortgage-backed security (MBS) creation, ensuring proper structuring and execution within the secondary market.
  • Enter trade executions into risk management systems, ensuring accurate tracking and portfolio monitoring.
  • Monitor team transaction entries and fees recorded in the General Ledger to ensure accuracy.

Hedging, Data Management & Collaboration:

  • Provide ad hoc tactical and strategic reporting using SQL to support hedging, sales, and securitization decisions.
  • Maintain and enhance automated risk management frameworks (QRM) on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Collaborate across business units, including risk teams, accounting teams, and real estate lending teams, to align strategies and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to mortgage loan sales, hedging, and securitization, and assist in audit or internal reporting as needed.
  • Identify and implement automation or process improvements to enhance trading, risk management, and reporting efficiency.
  • Work closely with broker-dealers, investors, and counterparties to optimize trade execution and market access.
