As part of Verizon’s Experience Design team, you’ll have the chance to impact one of the largest consumer presences in America, supporting millions of daily customer interactions across an omnichannel ecosystem and a growing consumer product portfolio. With global offices and hybrid work environments, the team is assembling the brightest designers, design strategists, and product managers to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, shaping the future of the customer experience.
As an Associate Director of Experience Design, you will lead and manage teams to create best-in-class design solutions that support the account and device management needs of customers. You’ll collaborate with partners across product, technology, and business to deliver experiences that meet both near-term optimization needs, as well as North Star experience visions. In addition to focusing on customer experiences, you are responsible for career growth and performance management of direct reports and contributing to the overall betterment of our design community.
Thoroughly exploring, refining, and documenting the design solutions.
Actively exploring user context, and engaging in target user activities when possible.
Participating in insight-gathering activities (informal or formal, primary or secondary) and creating design solutions that leverage user insights.
Actively researching competitive products, industry trends, and topics.
Staying updated on Verizon's business, strategy, and organizational structure.
Effectively designing solutions within Verizon's business context and revenue model.
Maintaining a working knowledge of UI standards for common platforms (iOS, Android, Web).
Working within Verizon's front-end and back-end technology constraints and capabilities.
Giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Actively identifying, escalating, and helping remove impediments keeping your team from being productive.
Identifying the pros and cons of possible design approaches to assist with decision-making.
Helping navigate sensitive tradeoffs with higher-level leadership.
Making partners stronger by teaching design-led processes and best practices.
Building relationships and facilitating meetings with Business Unit Owners and executive leadership.
Advocating for the team and recommending approaches that allow designers to do work aligned with development goals and interests.
Encouraging design community participation through group events/activities.
Seeking opportunities to contribute thought leadership to the broader design community.
Leading your team by providing performance feedback, reviews, coaching, and direction.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll need to have:
Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
Experience leading and managing a design team (4+ designers).
Experience with Agile software delivery environments.
Experience designing in Figma.
Portfolio of professional work.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design.
Shipped products with a large user base.
Experience with large organizational environments (ie Fortune 500).
Experience successfully coaching and managing the performance of teams.
In-depth knowledge of human-centered design practices, research methodologies, and design tools.
Experience facilitating workshops.
Design systems experience.
Expert Figma skillset.
High product quality bar and a strong eye for visual design.
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes.
Presentation and communication skills suited for executive audiences that leverage design storytelling to drive alignment.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to leverage data insights to inform enablement strategies, optimize performance, and drive business impact.
Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to build a learning environment where designers grow and expand skill-sets, techniques, and tools.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $136,000.00 and $253,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
