RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Controls Assessment & Design team is a fundamental function to support new product launches, firmwide policy and standard uplifts, and continuously look for controls gaps in existing products. As part of the broader Business Controls team, the Risk & Controls Associate role serves as part of Marcus’s first line of defense to ensure strong risk mitigation governance and process-level controls inventory. This role will focus on proactively identifying opportunities for enhancing controls or implementing additional controls.

What you can expect in a Controls Assessment Associate role:

  • Proactively identify business risks, process deficiencies, and potential gaps/ weaknesses in risk management standards.
  • Present outcomes of gap assessment and remediation to leadership.
  • Lead process deep dives by reviewing process documentation (process maps, procedures, etc.) and working with stakeholders to document existing controls,identify control gaps (automation, detective reporting, etc.) and ensure that Consumer regulatory requirements are sufficiently covered.
  • Actively participate in cross functional working groups to enhance enterprise risk management frameworks.
  • Collaborate with product and process teams to integrate risk management principles into product development, ensuring compliance and enhancing customer experience.
  • Lead cross-functional project management efforts across the internal working team.
  • Work closely with compliance to map regulatory requirements to specific processes and controls.
  • Head continuous control framework improvements to meet changing requirements and support maximum visibility to an executive audience.
  • Maintain effective communication with other teams to determine root cause of errors and shepherd the implementation of control specific corrective actions related to non-compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to executive reporting and other data-driven deliverables, with a focus on providing appropriate content, context, and structure in a precise and timely manner.

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • 3+ years related work experience in an Operational Risk, Controls, Process Improvement role or transferable knowledge.
  • Critical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to provide effective challenge and provide alternative perspective to group consensus.
  • Genuine excitement and passion for leading root cause analysis, troubleshooting process failures, and implementing fixes to increase control framework effectiveness.
  • Experience building reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft tool suite including SharePoint, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, and communication (written and verbal) skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Consumer Banking (Deposits), specifically in operational risk, compliance, or process improvement
  • Working knowledge of financial, operational, compliance, and reputation risks
  • Experience working on Audits
