About this Role

The Underground Foreman position will oversee the work of their crews' depending on job size. The Foreman will be able to perform all the duties of an Underground Laborer & Operator. He/she will help train new laborers and operators on proper processes and job functions. The Foreman will submit daily time sheets for their crew members and themselves. This position will ensure that all employees follow job site safety processes and protocols.

What You'll Do

Telecommunications Foreman Responsibilities:

All phases of underground construction include but are not limited to: Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipment.

  • Load, unload, and transport material, tools, and equipment
  • Restore and landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, and other temporary structures.
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Identify utilities in the trench/bore path.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Ensure that equipment is cleaned and maintained.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • Identify utilities in the trench/bore path.
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Follow all on-site safety procedures.
  • Report incidents to Supervisor or Safety Manager immediately
  • Contact permitted city Inspector.
  • Submit daily timecards for crew members.
  • Ensure that equipment is cleaned and maintained.
  • Submit daily Pre-trip inspections and JHA's.
  • Operate all heavy equipment in a safe manner.
  • Complete monthly assigned "Got Safety" lessons.
  • Manage crew, ensure productivity.
  • As-builts & hand in completed prints.

What You'll Bring

Telecommunications Foreman Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to travel.
  • 3– 5 years' experience in underground construction
  • Ability to read maps, plans, and blueprints and convey this information to others.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper operation and safety standards of heavy equipment
  • 1-3 years' experience operating heavy machinery, including loaders, dozers, backhoes, and excavators.
  • Traffic Control Maintainer certificate
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance.
  • Class A CDL is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
  • OSHA 10 certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the underground industry.
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative when needed.
  • Develop an understanding of daily maintenance for underground equipment.
  • Ability to perform all underground procedures and duties.

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements:

The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. The employee will need to be able to regularly lift 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
