Job Description

The Chief Underwriting Office reviews Investment Grade, Leveraged Finance and Structured Finance debt origination deals as well as primary and secondary equity transactions in various forms, and are the gatekeepers to the firm’s debt and equity committees. The candidate will be a key member of the EMEA CUO team in London and be appointed as EMEA secretary for either the Firmwide and Credit Markets Capital Committees or the Firmwide Commitments Committee. They will be a key part of the approval process chaperoning deal teams from mandate to execution.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will have responsibility for a broad range of day-to-day tasks including:

  • Advising deal teams on approval requirements for different transaction types
  • Scheduling, ensuring smooth operation of, and minuting follow ups for capital or commitment committees in various forms (regular, ad hoc, and offline meetings and various delegated processes)
  • Initiating risk bookings post transaction signing via approval of eCARs, working with Controllers, Middle Office and Divisional Risk to ensure accurate reflection of risk on the balance sheet 
  • Deputized responsibilities on behalf of Chief Underwriting Officers including presentation of transactions to committee; approval of Investment Grade bond issuances; and closing of committee follow-ups
  • Assistance in roll out of regulatory driven changes to approval processes and committee memoranda templates in coordination with Engineering, Credit Risk and GBM Private Leadership 
  • Coordination of responses to both internal and external audits and periodic regulatory examinations
  • Acting as a team lead by advising and training junior team members

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • At least 4-6 years of related experience
  • Interest in debt capital markets and motivated to develop credit analysis skills and an understanding of financing documentation and/or interest in equity capital markets
  • Accurate and detail-oriented with sound judgment and integrity 
  • Ability to work well with team members and across multiple other internal teams, motivated to train and advise junior team members
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral as well as written
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
