Job Description

GBM-Public, Special Assets Group. Associate, New York 

The Special Assets Group resides within Global Banking & Markets as part of Credit Trading. SAG’s mandate includes managing Goldman’s relationship lending portfolio and a new initiative for first line of defense management of risk limits across Global Market’s businesses and products. The trading desk oversees 100bln+ of corporate loans ranging from investment grade to distressed positions. We are street facing and execute trading and hedging strategies in loans, CDS, bonds, options, and structured credit transactions. We are also responsible for market risk management across Equities, IRP, Credit, Commodities, Mortgages, and EM. In this capacity, the desk engages with traders across Global Market’s businesses to review risk limits and trading strategies to remediate limit breaches. We are a small team; each team member is responsible for understanding a broad range of products, markets, and industries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in monitoring the loan portfolio, marking positions, and credit research
  • Follow selected sectors and companies and keep team informed of key developments
  • Assist in executing cash and derivative trades both internally and through our external coverage 
  • Develop views on appropriate hedge strategy, candidates for sales, and target prices 
  • Value and mark positions, many of which are illiquid, by reviewing comps and extrapolating across the capital structures
  • Review risk limits across Global Markets and engage with traders responsible for each limit 
  • Collaborate with Engineering to develop new risk reports & scenarios  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ plus years relevant experience in Global Markets / Market Risk or similar role with transferable skills
  • Understanding of fixed income math, risk metrics, and credit products.
  • Basic understanding of financial statements, capital structure, credit ratings, and restructuring
  • Experience in corporate finance through credit / equity research a plus
  • Broad knowledge across multiple trading businesses and products a plus
  • Understanding of market risk measures, concepts, and regulatory rules
  • Desire and ability to collaborate with people from different departments and levels of seniority

Salary Range 

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $125000-$250000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
