Medium Voltage Electrician 1

Department: Field Operations-Asset Integrity Electrical             

Job Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Salary Non-Exempt                    

Reports To: Electrical Field Supervisor & Service Supervisor

Location: Multiple States within the U.S.         

Amount of Travel Required: >95%

POSITION SUMMARY: The Medium Voltage Electrician (MV 1) assists in supporting wellsite fracturing operations, ensuring that all electrical components and practices are performed safely according to EVO standards and national codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word 'May.')

  • Learns the concept of fracturing and how the fracturing equipment contributes to the job. 
  • Performs prejob equipment inspections to ensure reduced equipment downtime during the job.
  • On jobsite, when called upon, troubleshoots, and performs necessary repairs to malfunctioning equipment.
  • Operates under pressure to maintain consistent pumping time for all equipment
  • Assists personnel with troubleshooting of all MV motors, VFD’s and processing gear.
  • Ensures proper grounding grid is laid out and tested including but not limited to all EVO equipment/Third Party Equipment on site which is supplied power by EVO.
  • Conducts work in accordance with safety rules, standard operating procedures, and workplace instructions follows all applicable OEM Manufacturer, OSHA, MSHA, NEC codes to perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and operation of all electrical equipment.
  • Responsible for communicating job maintenance and repairs performed to MV Supervisor, Service Supervisor and or other designates.
  • May be assigned duty of ordering electrical components, supplies, and tools.
  • Works within fleet maintenance to maintain inspection, checks, and repair reports
  • Under direct supervision of mentor, the MV 1:
    • Performs routine maintenance on MV Switch Gear, MV Circuit Breakers, Transformers, and all associated equipment.
    • Monitors and troubleshoots Branch Feeder Circuit Protection Relays.
    • Performs routine maintenance and or testing of all MV cables prior to each frac operation.
    • Maintains condition of electrical devices, equipment, and cables.
    • Responsible for Power Distribution to all equipment including but not limited to cable routing, designation, cable terminations, final inspection of entire system and approval prior to energizing any Medium Voltage Circuits
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successfully passes background check and preemployment drug screening.
  • Possesses a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Daily overtime required and in person, predictable attendance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE LEVEL

  • High School Diploma or GED. Technical College Training preferred.
  • 18 months previous medium voltage electrical experience required OR Associates Degree in Electrical Technology or related field.
  • NEC / Country code familiarization
  • OSHA /Code Familiarization
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Previous oilfield service experience.
    • MV mining experience also acceptable.
    • MV drive experience preferred.
    • Certified journeyman electrician/ Master Electrician
    • Protection Relay Experience/ Certifications a Plus

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend fundamental English.
  • Ability to operate testing equipment (Megger, Multimeter/Process Meter, Amp probe, High Pot, Test Unit, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to attend, participate, and successfully complete the scheduled New Hire Safety training, including but not limited to H2S, Powered Industrial, and basic First Aid and CPR training.
  • Attends and successfully completes annual safety and recertification training.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 12 hour shifts for 14 consecutive days.
  • Ability to successfully work within a team environment to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to learn in a fastpaced environment, adapt to change and receptive to new instructions.
  • Ability to abide by all safety and procedural policies produced by EVO.
  • Ability to take instruction well and interact with other employees in a positive manner within the framework of assigned work groups.
  • Possess intermediate interpersonal communication skills.
  • Possess intermediate mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Possess basic proficiency in Microsoft platforms (Office, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Fully knowledgeable, compliant and takes initiative to promote and work with digital platforms including Active Learner, Paycom, KPA, and other company mandated systems. For new hires, ability to quickly learn company platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADVANCEMENT: (Promotions may occur only after the following qualifications have been satisfied. Promotions are not guaranteed and are subject to availability of position openings.)

  • Time in Position: Minimum 8 months
  • Successful completion of SEL as provided
  • Demonstrated ability to prove a high aptitude in technical skillsets, qualifications, skills, competencies, and abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Daily required to walk, sit, climb, bend, reach and squat/kneel. When required to go to a wellsite, employees will rideshare with multiple employees. Work environment includes exposure to hazardous materials, operating conditions, audio up to 85 dB and inclement weather, including typical and atypical outdoor elements and extreme cold and hot weather temperatures. Given these conditions employees are required to wear company mandated and issued personal protective equipment (PPE) (fire retardant coveralls, arc flash suits, safety hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses, ear protection, high voltage gloves, and impact gloves) and must strictly adhere to all safety policies. Medium Voltage Electricians are regularly required to lift heavy objects; therefore, Medium Voltage Electricians must be able to lift 49 lbs. independently and 50 100 lbs. with a team lift.

Work hours may include early morning, late evenings, and weekends, depending on job demands.
