Risk Management at Goldman Sachs 

Risk management is a 2nd line control function that oversees the activities of the 1st line businesses. The job of the Risk Management organization is to identify the risks incurred through business activity (Risk Identification), establish the risk appetite for these risks and ensure compliance with the risk appetite (through measuring, monitoring and limiting/controlling the risk at the firm).   

Risk Engineering Product Management 

Risk Engineering is responsible for providing the Chief Risk Officer, senior management, regulators, and other stakeholders with high quality risk information required to keep the firm’s activities within the defined risk appetite and comply with regulatory requirements. Our user base spans thousands of users globally. We partner with Risk leaders across divisions, to fully understand the products, business strategies, and regulatory expectations. This knowledge enables us to build long-lasting software solutions, and to innovate with a purpose.  

The Risk Engineering Product Management team is responsible for guiding products through all stages of their lifecycle, including research, design, scoping, delivery, promotion and post-launch monitoring. As a member of our team, you will partner globally across multiple divisions and engineering teams to create end-to-end solutions. You will be able to innovate and incubate new ideas, and you will learn and share knowledge across the organization. You will have an opportunity to work on a broad range of projects. 

Your Role 

As a VP, in the Risk Engineering Product Management team you will: 

  • Work with project sponsors, product owners and key business and engineering stakeholders to establish a clear product strategy and roadmap in line with overall product vision and broader Risk Engineering objectives 

  • Manage overall initiatives or specific work streams within a broader enterprise risk management initiative 

  • Work with Risk Engineering and Risk Division teams to understand business problems and deliver technology enabled solutions 

  • Challenge and shape business need and technology requirements 

  • Rationalize user requirements across a broad cross section of products and users 

  • Help Risk Engineering teams to clear roadblocks and deliver solutions 

  • Interact with business users for resolving issues with applications 

  • Drive and contribute to project decision-making 

  • Work with other engineering and functional teams in Goldman Sachs 

Skills & Experience We Look For 

  • Self-starter comfortable working in a dynamic engineering environment 

  • Solid understanding of financial / banking industry with in-depth knowledge of Risk Management and/or Data Governance preferred 

  • Solid understanding of project and product management from initiation to implementation including functional design, testing and go-live plans 

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills (written and verbal) 

  • Analytical problem solver and critical thinker able to examine current processes, propose improvements, socialize to obtain stakeholder feedback and build consensus  

  • Simplify technical content for those who are non-technical 

  • Support, influence and motivate others from project inception to completion 

  • Flexibility, ability to learn quickly  

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently

Qualifications 

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or Technology   

  • 6-8 years of transformation, strategy and/or product management experience  

  • Knowledge of functional areas such as product management, engineering, user experience, project management, transformational change management, data governance 

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority 

  • Must work well in a global team, multi-tasking environment and under pressure 

  • Adaptability and being comfortable with uncertainty 

  • Ability to navigate large data sets, develop metrics and perform analysis is a plus  

  • The ability (and tenacity) to clearly express ideas and arguments in meetings and on paper (i.e., great written and verbal communications skills) 

  • Knowledge of the financial industry and risk functions and consulting experience would be welcome but are not expectations
