What you’ll be doing...

As part of the policy team, you would be:

  • Responsible for the advocacy efforts on behalf of Verizon for all tax/fee legislation impacting the company, its network, its services and its customers, including influencing policy makers at the state and local government level for assigned multistate region. 

  • Responsible for developing the strategies, plans and key messaging points to directly communicate, influence and interface with external public policy makers and other stakeholders to gain support for Verizon's tax legislative policy goals, both offensively and defensively.

  • Responsible for working directly with Verizon state public policy teams and consultants to implement and execute the strategies developed to pursue the company’s key tax priorities.

  • Responsible for developing relationships with state and local tax authorities, legislative members of the relevant committees and other key policy makers to establish the lead role as a subject matter expert on the tax issues impacting Verizon and the broadband industry.

  • Responsible for serving as the primary interface with the internal tax teams to gather the necessary information to determine and advance Verizon position on  tax legislative activities for each state in assigned region.

  • Responsible for keeping management informed of pending legislation and its potential financial impact to the company and its customers as well as communicating to the relevant stakeholder teams legislation that has been enacted to help ensure the company’s overall compliance with state and local tax/fee laws.

  • Responsible for representing Verizon at any external meetings that address tax/fee legislation impacting Verizon and its customers.



What we’re looking for...

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in advocacy work before (or work directly with) state legislatures, local governments or tax agencies

  • Strong analytical ability, leadership and negotiation skills

  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • High-level knowledge concerning the taxation of the broadband industry and its competitors

  • Travel required on as needed basis

Even better if you have…

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) or Juris Doctorate (JD) designation preferred

  • Strong background in taxes, state budgets, economic development or broadband industry issues preferred

  • High level knowledge in financial accounting 

  • Ability to operate in an unstructured environment



Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $195,000.00 and $363,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
