As a Senior Manager - Experience Design, you'll be managing experience designers and leading teams on multiple, wide-ranging, and complex design programs or products. At this management level and higher, you have several years of experience in design, having expert and generalist skills. You share high expertise of core design capabilities, and process leadership, and have formal management duties supporting the professional development of direct reports. Additionally, you take on increased responsibility in team resourcing and project planning and spend more time on stakeholder collaboration. At this level the focus is typically on leadership for a single team.
Planning & facilitating team activities to identify design problems and opportunities and align with priorities.
Facilitating and inspiring creative concepting. Provide directional input.
Advocating for adoption of a design system, and guides teams in the evolution of the design system.
Collaborating with user research teams to plan and facilitate analysis of observations to develop insights.
Coaching teams to communicate proposed solutions to stakeholders in business terms. Anticipating the organizational impact of proposed solutions.
Recognizing, tracking, and communicating issues, accomplishments, milestones, to team and partners.
Projecting confidence that compels people to follow and inspire the best from a team.
Owning and influencing relationships with Business partners and executive leadership.
Making partners stronger by advocating design-led processes and best practices.
Receiving mentoring in supporting professional development of designers.
Encouraging design community participation through group events/activities.
Identifying opportunities, advocate for and elevate Verizon design by shaping external narrative and messaging for Verizon design.
Seeking opportunities to contribute thought leadership to the broader design community.
You're a design leader who guides teams to deliver best-in-class design solutions grounded in user, product, tech, and business requirements through collaboration with partners. You focus on the growth of individual team members and designing with partners. Designers look to you for direction, and your peers and other directors look to you for a fresh perspective. You take ownership for the outcomes of your team's efforts.
Bachelor’s degree or ten or more years of work experience.
Experience in business segment (b2b) design management.
Experience in digital design & user centric design overall.
Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Design
Portfolio is all professional work, may include teaching work and/or independent projects and role in guiding teams and shaping processes in addition to delivering best-in-class work.
Experience leading design teams in framing and solving challenging problems on multiple design programs or shipped products with a large user base.
Contribution to overall product success.
Experience in driving innovative efforts that uncovered new value with new kinds of experiences.
Experience playing a lead role in coordinating broader business, technical, and customer success factors.
Demonstrates thought leadership.
Experience mentoring other designers.
Experience managing a team of designers.
