PayPal, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 2 in San Jose, CA

Job Duties: Design, build, test, release, monitor, and provide live support for complex multi-tiered applications. Identify, troubleshoot and solve availability, performance, scalability and other live issues in a time critical environment. Produce exemplary code with unit, functional tests, and maintain CI pipeline. Write detailed technical documentation to allow easy hand-offs to other team members. Employ technical expertise in helping team members overcome technical problems. Continuously innovate and promote a mindset of making the systems and solutions constantly better. Collaborate effectively with Designers, Product, Design and other Engineering teams to build and implement software solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to testing goals and principles. Build new experiences and improving existing products, develop robust software solutions and dependable products for PayPal’s merchants and consumer.  Developing application user interfaces as designed by User Experience teams. Ensuring organization standards for code and application quality are always followed. Collaboration with various engineering teams involved in development of features end-to-end. Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting. Prototype ideas quickly and rapidly iterate using cutting edge technologies. Solid communication skills & proven team player. Ensure quality using standard metrics. Collaborate with other engineers, architects, DBAs and Product Managers to achieve goals. Telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1.    Build highly performant scalable software modules using technologies such as JS, Node.js, React.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, REST, Docker, Elasticsearch, and MySQL
2.    Understand business requirements and translate them into detailed technical design specifications, including high-level and low-level architecture diagrams.
3.    Develop automated tests using tools like Cypress or jest.
4.    Hands on with application monitoring and alerting capabilities using external tools like Splunk or Kibana.
5.    Resolve complex business problems via the right mix of technologies, tools, and infrastructure deployment models
6.    Design architecture-based software components that promote modularity, reusability, loose coupling and high maintainability
7.    Follow industry SDLC standards for test driven development, use of Agile scrum methodology

Additional Job Description:

Base salary: $146,307-176,000 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
