Job Description Summary:

Identity Engineering team builds and maintains a highly scalable, available, secure, and compliant Identity platform for PayPal. We design, develop, and enhance services that get called across every interaction between PayPal and its users and partners. Our solutions need to scale across billions of such interactions, working with petabyte-plus data, integrating with various other APIs in real time, and yet providing high availability and configurability to the business.

A customer and employee-focused, hands-on backend engineering manager, responsible for managing a team of engineers who will be designing, implementing, and delivering state of the art Authentication and Authorization platform of PayPal. The ideal candidate for the role will be a combination of

Your way to Impact 

This is an opportunity to be a technical leader. You will work closely with product and business functions to come up with optimal solutions to build a trusted, scalable, and compliant Identity Platform. You will get an opportunity to work on one of PayPal’s most heavily used services to build and support systems that serve tens of millions of requests per day with low latency and high uptime. 

Your day to day 

  • Build and manage high-performing engineering teams to guide the development of scalable and consumable Identity platform capabilities.  

  • Effective communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and alignment driving skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner   

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and stakeholders to define platform requirements and priorities. Break down complex projects into smaller pieces and lead the iterative design and implementation process.  

  • Develop and evolve engineering processes and collaboration models to optimize team efficiency and collaboration 

  • Identify and recruit exceptional talent. Mentor team members, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, inclusion and continuous learning.   

  • Be a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding in diligent architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale. 

  • Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet our engineering SLAs. 

What do you need to bring 

  • Should have overall 10+ years of experience and proven 4+ years of experience as a team engineering manager. Experience with B2B and B2C Identity Platform is a plus.  

  • Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and alignment driving skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner   

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire, mentor, and empower team members to achieve their full potential. Manage a team of about 25 engineers. 

  • Solid track record of engineering and platform delivery and scaling targets in high volume, innovative, and fast-paced high-pressure environments; proven results in delivery of platform products.    

  • Established Service Owner with experience in using Agile/Scrum methodology for software development 

  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale software architecture and development, and/or high-volume websites and web services. Solid understanding of architectural considerations such as security, performance, scalability, reliability, etc. 

  • Strong Object-oriented programming skills and expertise in Java/J2EE. Experience with REST API’s, Web Services, Unit Testing and build tools. 

  • Working experience with databases such as Oracle/MySQL etc. Exposure to cloud-native/compatible databases like Spanner, Postgre SQL, Dynamo, etc is a plus. 

  • Exposure to building and deploying Cloud-native software is a plus. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Experience in GCP is a plus

$107300 to $259600
