Job Description

Savings and Membership (SMD) Data Governance falls within the Project Systems and Technology team in the Savings and Membership department. The team’s mission is to drive data excellence by maximizing the value of data as a reliable and trusted business asset and to promote responsible data management by ensuring data is well managed and data risk is reduced. Areas of focus include:

  • Empowering SMD to leverage data assets into effective business insights
  • Partnering with key stakeholders to enable data management capabilities across SMD and reduce data risk
  • Driving accountability and ownership of enterprise data assets
  • Building transparency and auditability into policies, practices, and processes
  • Measuring program and business value and report on data risks

Based on the SMD Data Governance 2024 Road Map, some of the projects that the team will continue to work on in 2025 are: 

  • Continuing to build our Metadata collection for highly prioritized SMD systems
  • Building our SMD system architecture, how do systems talk to each other
  • Identifying data errors, patterns, and trends to answer business questions and improve decision-making
  • Performing validation checks for business unit reports and dashboards during cloud transition

Performing complex analytical statistical modeling and visualizations on large data sets to support various business operations and organizational objectives.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2025 and ending in August 2025. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2025 or later.

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, Analytics, or other related degree
  • Exposure to scripting languages (Python, R, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL 
  • Experience with data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau)    
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (Databricks, Microsoft Azure)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience working with ambiguous problems
  • Curious and excited to collaborate with various business units
Responsibilities
  • Support Business Data Stewards in documenting data dictionaries 
  • Support the technical aspects of the business area’s data catalog from the perspective of planning, implementing, and testing bug fixes, new features, and upgrades, implementing new taxonomy properties, templates, and processes
  • Support continuous improvements in data quality, classification, metadata evaluation, and exporting/importing data processes
  • Support technical data stewards in documenting the lineage of data from creation to output, ensuring that the information is useable and meets the business needs
  • Enable data lineage collection and visualization at various granularities to be able to provide insights on the data flows between the various producers and consumers of business area data
