Purpose of Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to join our team in conducting ballistic helmet tests. This role is part of a research initiative focused on understanding and improving helmet performance. The ideal candidate will have experience in engineering principles and data collection, and will be responsible for setting up, executing, and documenting tests. This role will conduct helmet testing on a ballistic range and work with a larger team to analyze the results and predict the risk of injury to the wearers. Part of this work will involve development of new test methods, and the Test Engineer will work with others on the team to implement new equipment and measurement techniques.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Setting up and running full helmet drop test experiments – this includes following existing test standards as well as assessing new test methods
• Preparing material samples and running material-level tests
• Developing and overseeing maintenance and calibration schedules on test equipment
• Developing test plans, writing proposed test standards
• Participating with standards development bodies (e.g. ASTM) to understand and drive implementation of new standards
• Analyzing test results, writing technical reports, and presenting findings
• Designing and fabricating new test equipment (e.g. fixtures)

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in mechanical, biomechanical, or biomedical engineering (or a related field)
• Strong mechanical aptitude. Experience setting up and operating mechanical testing equipment.
• Experience setting up and operating sensors and data acquisition systems
• Familiar with 3D CAD modeling (e.g. Solidworks, Creo)
• Cleveland based position (requires predominantly working on-site)

Preferred Skill(s) and/or Experiences

• Experience with test surrogates such as the Hybrid-III Anthropomorphic Test Dummy (ATD) 
• Excellent organization skills
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
