General Summary:

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Vice President of Systems and Software Engineering to lead our engineering teams in China. This role will oversee the development and implementation of cutting-edge systems and software solutions across multiple business units, including Handset, Automotive, PC, Modem, XR, and IoT.  The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record in leading large-scale engineering projects. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage Systems and Software teams in China, comprising over 2200 employees and contractors across multiple sites (Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing, Xi’an, and Chengdu). 
  • Serve as the site manager for Shanghai, ensuring smooth operations and effective collaboration. 
  • Develop and execute actionable engineering strategies based on detailed data analysis. 
  • Foster strong inter-personal relationships and work effectively across organizations and senior executives. 
  • Ensure alignment with international teams, including those in the USA and India. 
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace. 
  • Lead talent development programs to nurture and grow engineering talent within the organization. 
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development. 

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles. 
  • Strong understanding of the China Auto, smartphone, and smart devices customer and technology ecosystem. 
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including open-source development. 
  • Excellent English written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, and a working level of Mandarin proficiency. 
  • Proven ability to analyze and distill detailed data into actionable engineering strategies. 
  • Experience managing large, distributed engineering teams and working across different geographies.

  • International experience and the ability to work across different cultures. 
  • Strong leadership and team management skills. 
  • Ability to drive innovation and foster a culture of continuous improvement. 

In addition to experience, the successful candidate will have demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

This also includes the ability to plan and implement unconventional ideas and speculate about alternative futures without all of the data.

Decision Making: The ability to make quick, accurate decisions. This includes the ability to weigh alternatives and take into account the impact of the decisions on people, equipment, or other resources.

Getting Work Done: The ability to be organized, resourceful, and planful. This includes the ability to leverage multiple resources to get things done and lay out tasks in sufficient detail. This also includes the ability to get things done with fewer resources and in less time, work on multiple tasks at once without losing track, and foresee and plan around obstacles.

Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of program management methodology (e.g., planning, scheduling, tracking, execution). This includes the ability to effectively use program management tools to carry out the program management function.
